The objective of this study was to assess the diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to characterize hypoechoic focal hepatic lesions (HFHL) in fatty liver (FL). A study group of 105 patients with FL and 105 HFHLs (52 malignant and 53 benign) underwent CEUS after SonoVue administration. Two blinded readers independently reviewed baseline ultrasound (US) and CEUS scans and classified each lesion as malignant or benign on a five-point scale of confidence, and recorded whether further imaging work-up was needed. Imaging of calcified hepatic lesions: spectrum of diseases

Hepatic calcifications have been increasingly identified over the past decade due to the widespread use of high-resolution Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. Calcifications can be seen in a vast spectrum of common and uncommon diseases, from benign to malignant, including cystic lesions, solid neoplastic masses, and inflammatory focal lesions. The purpose of this paper is to present an updated review of CT imaging findings of a wide range of calcified hepatic focal lesions, which can help radiologists to narrow the differential diagnosis.

An ectopic thyroid is a form of thyroid dysgenesis in which the entire thyroid gland or parts of it may be located in another part of the body than the usual place. The most frequent location is the base of the tongue. Although most cases are asymptomatic, symptoms related to tumor size and its relationship with surrounding tissues, hormonal dysfunction, and seldom malignancy may also occur. Focal hepatic intrinsically hyperattenuating lesions at unenhanced CT: Not always calcifications.

Due to the growing use of CT, there has been an increase in the frequency of detecting focal liver lesions. Intrinsically hyperattenuating hepatic lesions or pseudolesions are not uncommon at unenhanced CT. Hyperattenuating hepatic lesions can be divided into non-calcified and calcified. Causes of intrinsic hyperattenuation include hemorrhage, thrombosis, and calcifications. Focal liver lesions can show hyperattenuation on unenhanced CT in case of severe liver steatosis. Recognition of etiologies associated with hyperattenuation on unenhanced CT can help the radiologist in characterizing focal liver lesions and pseudolesions.
